Why was Water For Elephants cancelled at Gammage?

We went to the theater last night and they turned us away at the parking garage telling us the show was cancelled. We're not sure why, but the reason given was that 'too many crew called out'. This sounds really strange to us.

I'm excited to see a performance today, but I'm getting a bit worried. I've been checking the theater's social media and seeing comments from people who are saying that some of the actors are unwell. Apparently, nine of them are out sick, which doesn't sound good for my matinee show.
