Why can't I get fibre optic internet in Tuscany?

Why can't I get fibre optic internet in Tuscany?
Transportation 6 answers • Marta BMarta B
I live in Tuscany and currently the highest speed that we can get between all service providers, is about 100 MB per second. Sure that may sound like it’s manageable, but when you live in a house with four other people at least two devices per person, not including tv, security etc… generally get speeds of about 0.10-0.50 MB/S. It is insufferable to do any school work online gaming or anything that requires a somewhat decent connection. Constantly switching between data and wifi can get something to load but no change in speed.

You're likely thinking of 100 megabits per second, which is indeed a gigabit speed, but it's more commonly referred to as a megabit speed.

Rogers should have gigabit internet available in almost every urban area with coax cable connections, providing speeds much greater than 100 megabits per second. Their customer service aside, this could be a viable option until fibre lines reach you.

When working from home, you often notice how congested Rogers's network is, which can cause issues with maintaining a one-hour Zoom call without interruption, especially in areas with high internet usage.

Bandwidth issues in my area of Marlborough have been non-existent with Rogers, and I've had no problems with internet speeds.

If you're experiencing spotty speeds, try switching to a wired connection. If your neighbourhood has too many WiFi access points, you may encounter channel crowding and radio interference.

Consider implementing Quality of Service on your router, especially if one of your roommates is frequently torrenting. This can help manage bandwidth and prevent slow speeds.
