Living in Hoi An, Vietnam, as a remote UX designer, I've had plenty of time to explore the city's unique coffee culture. One of the most fascinating aspects is the traditional Vietnamese phin filter. While it might seem imperfect by modern technical standards, it's the simplicity of this method that produces a rich, distinctive brew that has become deeply intertwined with Vietnam’s Robusta beans and coffee culture.

The phin filter, a small metal device that sits directly on top of a cup, slowly brews coffee as hot water drips through the grounds. This process, while less controlled and consistent than many modern methods, offers a unique drinking experience that is closely tied to Vietnam's love for Robusta coffee.
