I've been running in NYC for years and have been considering joining a NYRR event, but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost. I've heard they can be crowded and expensive, but I've also heard they're a great experience. Can anyone share their thoughts on whether NYRR events are worth it?

I recently moved to NYC from Ohio, and one thing I miss is regular workouts. I was a PhD student back in Ohio, so I could go to the gym while avoiding crowds. But I started a regular office job, so my only option on weekdays is after 6 PM. I had to cancel my Planet Fitness membership because I literally couldn't work out due to so many people in the gym. I think other gyms are no different. I'm thinking of trying Orangetheory; I know it's a bit expensive, but 1) can I work out peacefully, what if even Orangetheory is so packed, do they manage the crowd? 2) Is it worth the money? For those who don't have an apartment gym, how do you work out? I live in Queens, and my job is in Queens, too, so I hope it's something in the neighborhood.
I'm a veterinarian who works in NYC and I've noticed that people often get confused about the rules here. I'm looking for information on whether it's safe to swim in the East River, specifically considering the pollution levels and any recent improvements.
We're looking for some suggestions for seeing fall colors this weekend with our 3 year old toddler. We're open to driving 1-2 hours each way and would love a small hike too!
I've been trying to find a gym that fits my budget in Manhattan, but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost. I'd love to hear from others about their experiences.

I'm looking for recommendations for the best hikes in upstate NY that I could reach from NYC without a car. Ideally, there's a cute town nearby that I could stay at for a couple of nights while I do the surrounding hikes. I've got moderate hiking experience and comfortable with a bit of light scrambling.
