It's fine to have a small Jerry can worth of fuel for remote areas, where villages might not have standard fuel stations, but instead have fuel in glass bottles or oil drums with a hand pump. Also, don't rely on Google maps for route planning.

As of now, gas (benzine) costs 37,000 kip per liter (~$1.6) in Vientiane, and most gas stations are open and pumping.
