SargaBlock Prepares to Expand into Caribbean with Sargazo Plantations
Quintana Roo-based SargaBlock, a pioneering company in converting sargazo into construction materials, is set to expand its operations into the Caribbean. The company has announced plans to establish its first plants in Belice, Punta Cana, and Puerto Rico, part of its international expansion strategy.

SargaBlock, which has successfully established a circular economy model in Quintana Roo, is now looking to replicate this model in the region. Omar Vázquez, the company's general director, emphasized the potential of the sargazo plantations and their ability to contribute to sustainable tourism in the Caribbean.
The company is seeking international investors to finance the construction of these new plants, each estimated to cost between 3 to 5 million pesos. This move aims to capitalize on the sargazo's potential as a sustainable resource in the region.
For expats and digital nomads living in or currently based in Puerto Morelos, this expansion means more opportunities for sustainable tourism and a cleaner environment. The company's efforts to convert sargazo into construction materials can help reduce the impact of this macroalgae on local beaches and contribute to a greener future.
