Halloween Returns to NYC: 160 Car-Free Streets Offer Spooky Fun
Halloween is back in full force in New York City, with 160 car-free streets providing safe and festive spaces for trick-or-treating and other spooky activities. This year, the Department of Transportation (DOT) has expanded the popular 'Trick-or-Streets' initiative, making it the largest scale in the city's history.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani emphasized the event's significance, stating, 'NYC does Halloween like nowhere else, and this year we’re giving New Yorkers a better, spookier time than ever before.' The mayor's words are echoed in the diverse range of events across the five boroughs, from Brooklyn's Hillel Plaza to Manhattan's Canal Street.
Expats and digital nomads based in New York will appreciate the variety of events, including games, music, and free programming. For those with children, there's even a chance to get creative with the DOT's collaboration with Street Lab and NYC Public Schools. Additionally, free guided walking tours are available, providing an opportunity to explore the rich history and architecture of each neighborhood.
