My wife from Queens told me that Pastry shoes by Simmons Sister weren't something you'd wear in New York back in the 2000s. I'm wondering if this is true.

They're mentioned in the song 'Empire State of Mind' as 'Simmons whippin' pastry', so it seems they were at least a reference point in popular culture at the time.

I was in my 20s in the 2000s and from Queens, but I never heard of these shoes. Maybe they were popular with younger kids at the time.

Girls who wore these got a lot of negative attention. Most non-athlete celebrity shoes didn't make it in New York.

I wore these shoes in Brooklyn and didn't get teased by my classmates.

These shoes looked like bootleg LA Gear. They were not popular in New York.
