I have a neighbor who smokes and diffuses essential oils every day, most of the day. The odors enter our apartment through the radiators, which are enclosed in a box. I've tried to get the building to fix this, but they ignored a demand letter from a lawyer. I'm trying to report this to 311, but I'm not sure what to report.
I'm reviewing my lease renewal form for my high-rise apartment in New York. The lease expires at the end of November and my current rent is $X. The form shows a 'New Legal Rent' of $X+Y, but the 'Tenant's Response to Owner' section still lists my current rent as $X. The 'Additional Deposit Required' section says $0.00 and lists my current rent as $X. Is this because of the rent freeze?
My office is giving away some really nice large plants that I'd love to take home. They're around 5ft each in big planters, and I'd probably be able to grab 1-3 of them. I wouldn't be able to fit these in any car and would probably be crazy bringing them into the subway.
I'm looking for a specific brand of peanut butter and I'm not sure where to find it in the city. I've tried a few stores already but they don't seem to have it.
I have a few nice fur coats I'm looking to sell, but I'm not sure where to take them. I've heard some high-end consignment stores might be interested.
I'm a hockey fan and I've noticed that the 'Potvin Sucks' chant is not just limited to New York Rangers home games at Madison Square Garden. I've heard it at other games and even concerts at MSG. Is this true? If so, where else have you heard it?
I have an 8-year-old cat that needs to be neutered ASAP, but I'm looking for a reputable place that can handle his aggression.
I live in Washington heights/inwood and I'm tired of the limited food options in my area. I've been ordering delivery from restaurants in the morningside heights area, which is about 4.5 miles away. I want to know if it's reasonable to expect the delivery person to make that trip.
I have a broken leg, but am still supposed to move my car twice a week. I tried calling 311 and they gave me a number to call about getting a parking permit, but it was after 5PM on Friday when I called so I have to wait for normal business hours. In the meantime, has anyone ever gotten a permit like this before? I'm not sure if something like this even exists. My backup plan is to use crutches to go sit in the car during alternate side hours, but I have a job so that's not a great solution for the next 8 weeks. I don't have a partner and asking a friend to move my car 16 times over the next 2 months feels like way too big of a favor to ask of someone, but I also can't afford an extra $130 / week in tickets. Does anyone have any advice?
I'm looking to get Zepbound to help with my sleep apnea and lose weight. I've seen two doctors so far and they won't prescribe it even though I do have sleep apnea.
I'm in the process of buying a coop in South Brooklyn as a single woman. I'm 32 and hoping to start a family in the future so I wanted to plant some roots and start to feel stable. I make around $120k annually and have $60k saved. I plan to apply for the Home First grant to get some down payment assistance. The place I found is a 2-bedroom across the street from a nice nature spot, but it's far from the train.
I'm from a rural state and used to working at a farmers market. I thought NYC green markets would be similar, but the prices don't make sense to me. I was expecting cheaper produce because there's no middleman. Is it just a culture difference or do farm stands have to pay a huge fee to have rights to the space? Help me understand, please...
I'd like to gain some handyman skills like building/fixing furniture, fixing appliances, etc, in exchange for my labor. I'm a white-collar worker stuck on my desk 40 hours a week.
I'm looking at an apartment with every window except one opening to the fire escape. I want to know if I can have a window AC unit installed in one of those windows. It's not a high-rise building, so the fire escape ladder is relatively easy to climb. I'm concerned about safety and accessibility in case of an emergency.
My son is super into vinyl records and my wife and I are a little out of practice with where to go. We would always love taking a stroll through Virgin Megastore and then walk a few blocks to Colony Records. Does anyone have any good suggestions of places to go to check out some memorabilia and get a good selection of various musical media? I’m not super picky but would love to find somewhere in Manhattan vs the other boroughs if possible.
I'm planning to go out to eat dinner at a restaurant in the city tomorrow but I'm concerned about the storm. It's supposed to be a big one.
I've recently purchased a Bugaboo Fox 5 Renew for my baby, but I'm concerned about using it on buses and subways in the city. I've done my research, but I'd love to hear from others who use large strollers in NYC on a daily basis. I'm looking for practical advice on how to navigate the city with a big stroller.
I'm looking for a reliable plan that's under $50 a month with unlimited data and good international roaming options, preferably with a local sim or e-sim when traveling.
My husband and I bought a coop in Murray Hill this past January. We have never lived in NYC before, let alone have a doorman. The daytime weekday doorman retired on July 1. Since many residents were away over the summer, including us, a good by party was delayed until next week. This doorman worked for the building for about 20 years and really was a great doorman. Always smiling, always helpful. We want to give him a check as a thank you gift. What do you think an appropriate amount would be?
