My friend was charged for a limo service on her debit card, but the company doesn't exist anymore. The charge says it was through a POS square device, and the company name was PG Limo, but the actual company, Premium Limousine Calgary, says they don't use POS squares and don't pick people up on the street.

It's possible that a former employee or owner is operating an unauthorized taxi service under this name.

My wife uses a contactless payment machine and is linked to a bank account. If her bank searches the transaction history, it may be possible to track it back to the machine and the account it was linked to. Contactless payments can be vulnerable to skimming, but they can also be traced to a verified account.

The company that issued the Square device would likely have a record of the device's owner, as it would need to be registered to them in order to appear on the bank statement. You can't simply purchase a Square device and register it under a company name without verifying ownership of that company.
