Calgary Students Rebuke AI Integration in Post-Secondary Education
Calgary’s post-secondary students are voicing concerns about the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in their educational institutions. At a panel hosted by Alberta’s Ministry of Advanced Education, students from the University of Calgary’s Students’ Union submitted feedback condemning the integration of AI in both academic and professional contexts. The panel, chaired by Nicole Janssen of Diffusion Advisory AI, is tasked with evaluating the impact of AI on post-secondary education and the labor market.

The feedback from students is clear: while acknowledging the utility of AI, they argue that its integration could diminish the core learning experience and potentially undermine the long-term success of students. President Gabriela Dziegielewska of UCalgary’s Students’ Union emphasized that AI should not be adopted simply for the sake of technology, but rather to enhance educational outcomes.
For expats and digital nomads in Calgary, this development is significant. The balance between leveraging AI for convenience and maintaining the integrity of post-secondary education is crucial. As AI continues to evolve, it's important to stay informed about its integration and its potential impacts on academic integrity and learning environments.
