Getting Here
  • Fly into Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW), the main international hub

  • Modlin Airport (WMI): Budget airlines, further from city center (40 km)

  • Train from Chopin Airport: Direct to city center (Centrum) in 25 min, ~4.50 PLN

  • Bus: Line 175 to city center. Cheap and convenient.

  • Uber/Bolt/FreeNow: All work from airport. ~50-80 PLN to center.

  • Taxi: Official taxis at arrivals. Fixed rates to different zones.

  • Tip: Warsaw Chopin is very convenient - one of the easiest European airport transfers.

Visa & Immigration
  • Schengen Area: 90 days in 180 days for many nationalities without visa.

  • EU/EEA citizens: Free movement, no visa needed. Can live and work freely.

  • Long-stay visa (D): For work, study, or family reunification. Apply at embassy.

  • Poland visa: For non-Schengen stays over 90 days. Apply at Polish consulate.

  • Digital Nomad Visa: Poland doesn't have a specific one - use other visa categories.

  • Work permit: Required for employment. Employer usually sponsors.

  • Residence card: For stays over 90 days. Apply at Voivodeship office.

Weather & Seasons
  • Four distinct seasons: Real winter, warm summer, beautiful spring and fall.

  • Winter (Dec-Feb): Cold! Average around 30°F. Snow common. Bundle up.

  • Spring (Mar-May): Warming up, beautiful parks in bloom. Variable weather.

  • Summer (Jun-Aug): Warm, 70-85°F. Best outdoor season. Long days.

  • Fall (Sep-Nov): Colorful foliage, gradually cooling. Very atmospheric.

  • Best time: May-September for warmth. December for Christmas markets.

  • Metro: Two lines covering main areas. Fast and efficient.

  • Tram: Extensive network covering the whole city. Very useful.

  • Bus: Fills in where metro and tram don't reach.

  • ZTM app: Buy tickets and plan routes. Single ticket ~4.50 PLN (~$1).

  • Uber/Bolt/FreeNow: All work well and are affordable.

  • Veturilo: City bike sharing system. First 20 min free!

  • Driving: Possible but traffic can be heavy. Parking challenging in center.

  • Tip: Public transit + ride apps = you never need a car.

Internet & SIM Cards
  • SIM cards: Orange, Play, Plus, T-Mobile. Buy at shops or convenience stores.

  • Prepaid SIM: Easy to get with passport. ~30-50 PLN/month for unlimited data.

  • EU roaming: If you have an EU SIM, it works in Poland.

  • Home internet: UPC, Orange, Netia offer fast fiber. ~60-100 PLN/month.

  • Coworking: Many options - WeWork, Mindspace, Business Link, local spaces.

  • Cafe WiFi: Excellent - Poland has great coffee culture and work-friendly cafes.

  • Tip: Poland has excellent internet infrastructure. Fast and reliable!

Banking & Money
  • Currency: Polish Złoty (PLN). $1 ≈ 4 PLN, €1 ≈ 4.3 PLN (check current rate).

  • Cards everywhere: Poland is very card-friendly. Contactless widely accepted.

  • ATMs: Called "bankomat". Abundant. Use bank ATMs to avoid fees.

  • Warning: ATMs may offer "conversion" - always choose PLN for better rates.

  • Opening a bank account: Possible with residence. mBank, ING, Santander are foreigner-friendly.

  • Revolut/Wise: Very popular in Poland. Works well for getting started.

  • Cash: Still useful at markets and some small shops.

  • Tip: Cards work everywhere. This is one of the most cashless societies in Europe.

Best Neighborhoods
  • Śródmieście (City Center): Central, walkable, all amenities. Can be touristy and expensive.

  • Mokotów: Residential favorite. Parks, good transit, popular with families and expats.

  • Praga (North and South): Up-and-coming, artsy, more affordable. Different vibe.

  • Żoliborz: Green, peaceful, intellectual character. North of center.

  • Wola: Rapidly developing, new apartments, good transit. West of center.

  • Powiśle: Trendy, cafes, near the river. Very popular, pricier.

  • Ursynów: Southern district, metro access, family-friendly, affordable.

  • Rental prices: $600-1200/month for 1BR depending on location and standard.

Food & Drink
  • Polish cuisine: Pierogi (dumplings), bigos (hunter's stew), żurek (sour rye soup).

  • Milk bars (Bar Mleczny): Traditional cafeteria-style Polish food. Cheap and authentic!

  • Zapiecek: Popular chain for pierogi. Many locations.

  • International food: Excellent variety - Japanese, Vietnamese, Italian, Middle Eastern.

  • Hala Koszyki: Beautiful food hall with diverse options.

  • Coffee culture: Exceptional specialty coffee scene. Try Relax, Filtry, Forum.

  • Craft beer: Booming scene. Many craft beer bars and breweries.

  • Groceries: Biedronka (budget), Żabka (convenience), Carrefour, Auchan.

  • Tip: Milk bars are a cultural experience - try traditional Polish food at local prices!
