How is the rest of Tulum town doing after the hotel zone crisis?

I've been hearing about the struggles of the hotel zone in Tulum, but I'm curious about the rest of the town. I've been visiting Tulum often for work and to see family, and I'm planning to return soon. Are the local grocery stores, markets, and other businesses still open? Has the local population been affected economically? Have many expats moved away? Are there any new safety concerns? I hope the local communities are doing well.

Tulum is a great destination. I always have a good time when I'm there. I was there during Mexico's World Cup games and it was a lot of fun watching all the games on a giant screen set up in the center of town. The screen was huge and drew a large crowd. I think the summer was rough for the beaches due to sargassum, but I've seen pictures of clear days at the beaches already. Winters are usually perfect for the beaches. I prefer to spend my time in La Veleta and Tulum Centro, where I can find great restaurants at reasonable prices. The local people are very friendly and make you feel at home.

If you visited Tulum a few years ago, you might be surprised by the changes. I live here and it's been a challenging low season. However, major grocery stores are now open, and we even have a new one. Some people have left, but new ones have arrived. I'm not aware of any safety concerns. What's your main concern about Tulum?

I recently spent a few days in Tulum and had a nice time. The area is indeed a low-income region, but I found a great hotel for around $38 per night. There was a small vendor event nearby, which was a nice touch. I visited the ruins, but the sargassum was a major issue and not being cleaned up at all. In contrast, Cancun was actively cleaning up the sargassum. The beach side of the ruins was a disaster, with piles of sargassum and a strong smell. However, the ruins themselves were nice, but be prepared for limited shade, so it's best to go early.
