Tulum Airport Recovery Plan: President Sheinbaum's Perspective
President Claudia Sheinbaum recently addressed the ongoing issue of Tulum's dwindling flights, attributing the situation to the war in Iran and increasing jet fuel prices. Sheinbaum reassured residents and visitors that the airport will recover, and provided details at an upcoming conference on Thursday. In a bid to revive the airport, Sheinbaum highlighted the need for addressing the issue at the root cause, the rise in airport charges and fuel prices.

She emphasized that the government is committed to resolving this issue by working with the transport and economy ministries. In the meantime, the airport handled 471,500 passengers from January to June, down 33. 2 percent from 705,400 in the same period last year.
This figure underscores the significant drop in international traffic, which fell by 40. 8 percent in the first half of the year. The president's remarks suggest that the situation could improve if the government takes decisive action to stabilize the airport's financial situation and address the challenges posed by rising fuel prices and other related costs.
