New Dining Options in Toronto: From Yakitori to Italian Favourites
Arriving in Toronto in 2022 from Italy, I’m still navigating the city’s culinary landscape. This week, there are some exciting new dining options that might pique your interest, especially if you’re a foodie or a digital nomad looking to explore the city’s diverse gastronomic scene.

1. Bushidō at Casa Loma
Bushidō, opening on October 23, offers a unique dining experience within the historic Casa Loma. The restaurant will take diners through four of the castle’s heritage rooms over 10 courses, providing a grand and intimate experience. With only 16 diners seated each evening, the meal unfolds room by room, making for a memorable evening. If you're interested in a culinary adventure that’s both historic and intimate, this might be the spot for you.
2. Cucina Buca’s Reopening
Cucina Buca, a Midtown Italian favourite, is back after a temporary closure due to water damage. The restaurant has refreshed its dining room with subtle updates, but the kitchen team and menu remain unchanged. Enjoy house-made pastas, seafood from the Josper oven, and the restaurant’s signature focaccia di Recco. Reservations are available online, making it easier for locals and visitors to enjoy the restaurant's Italian classics.
3. The Dialog Cafe
For a more casual dining experience, The Dialog Cafe offers all-day brunch with a range of dishes from shakshuka and challah French toast to beef ragù fettuccine and Mediterranean-inspired dips. The menu is complemented by a full espresso bar and a pastry case stocked with croissants, babka, and burekas. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a leisurely brunch, this spot offers a welcoming atmosphere and a diverse menu.
4. Kiishi Izakaya
Near Finch Station, Kiishi Izakaya brings Japanese pub fare to Yonge Street. The restaurant serves binchotan charcoal-grilled yakitori, small plates, and rice dishes. This is a great spot for those who enjoy Japanese pub-style cuisine, offering a casual and delicious dining experience.
These new dining options showcase the diverse and exciting culinary scene in Toronto. Whether you're a local expat or a visitor, there's always something new to explore and enjoy. From historic dining experiences to casual brunch spots, Toronto continues to offer a variety of dining experiences that cater to different tastes and preferences.
Arrived in Toronto in 2022 from Italy. Still figuring things out, writing it down as it happens.
