Question 1

What is a digital nomad visa?

Accepted Answer

A digital nomad visa is a special permit that allows remote workers and freelancers to legally live and work in a foreign country while employed by a company or clients outside that country. These visas typically last 6-24 months and require proof of minimum income, health insurance, and remote employment.

Question 2

How much income do I need for a digital nomad visa?

Accepted Answer

Income requirements vary widely by country, ranging from around $1,000/month in countries like Georgia to $3,500+/month in places like Portugal and Bermuda. Most countries require proof of consistent income through bank statements, employment contracts, or tax returns from the past 3-12 months.

Question 3

Do I pay taxes on a digital nomad visa?

Accepted Answer

Tax treatment varies significantly by country. Some digital nomad visas offer full tax exemption on foreign-sourced income, while others may tax you as a resident after a certain period. US citizens must always file US taxes regardless. Consult a tax professional familiar with your specific destination.
