Why are tourists vomiting at La Placita in Santurce?

I've been going to La Placita in Santurce for a couple of weeks now, and while it's a fun place to explore new spots, I'm noticing a lot of people vomiting in the corners, mostly gringas. Is this normal?

Locals have a certain tolerance, but when gringos come and try to drink with the rest, they often get overwhelmed.

I think it's because the drinks are in large portions. Also, people here tend to start drinking at a younger age.
