LPG Prices Set to Spike: What This Means for Expats in Santurce
Living in Santurce, Puerto Rico, as an expat has its ups and downs, but the recent announcement from Empire Gas that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices are set to rise by up to $10 beginning in November is certainly adding a bit of a down to my days. Ramón González, the Empire Gas representative, warned that the price of a 100-pound LPG cylinder, currently around $105 to $106, could increase by $8 to $10, equating to a $10 increase for an average household.

This is significant news for expats and digital nomads, as LPG remains a crucial energy source for cooking in many homes. The rise in prices will likely affect everyone, from families to those running small businesses in the area. The adjustment is expected to take effect around November 1st, once the company completes the necessary notification process and regulatory approvals.
The news comes at a time when Puerto Rico is already grappling with inflationary pressures on a range of essential goods. For expats and those living a more mobile lifestyle, this increase will undoubtedly impact your budget. It’s important to plan ahead and possibly consider alternative cooking methods or sources for your LPG to manage costs.
