Playa Jardín Reopens for Swimming: Water Quality Tests Show It Is Safe
Good news for beach lovers in Santa Cruz de Tenerife! Playa Jardín, a popular spot in the Playa Grande area, has reopened for swimming after a brief two-day closure due to water quality concerns. The Canarian Government’s Public Health Directorate conducted tests which showed the water was safe for bathing, allowing the area to reopen on Friday.

Initial analyses revealed a level of intestinal enterococci at 220 colony-forming units per 100 millilitres, which exceeded the permitted levels, leading to the temporary ban. This marks the fourth closure this year at one of the three coves of Playa Jardín due to water quality issues. While the local council thanked beachgoers for their understanding, the frequent closures can be a hassle for regular visitors and residents.
For expats and digital nomads living in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, this means you can now enjoy a dip in the sea at Playa Jardín without worrying about the health risks. However, it's always a good idea to keep an eye on local health advisories and beach conditions before heading to the beach.
