San Miguel de Allende Residents Face Unexpected Cost Hikes: A Small Operator’s Perspective

Running a small grocery store in San Miguel de Allende since 2021, I've seen my fair share of challenges, from power cuts to fluctuating internet speeds. But the recent news about increased costs has hit closer to home. Local businesses are now facing higher expenses, and it's clear that these changes will affect us all.

As of late, the town has seen a series of rule changes that impact small operators like myself. For instance, new regulations have increased the cost of utilities, which has led to a rise in the operational expenses for my grocery. This means that not only am I paying more, but I'm also passing these costs on to my customers. The average month now costs me an extra $500 in electricity and water bills, which is a significant burden.

The most frustrating part is that these changes come with no clear explanation or consultation. As a small business owner, I rely on steady operations to keep my store running. These unexpected hikes in costs can make it difficult to maintain the quality of service my customers have come to expect.
