Bali Introduces Odd-Even Fuel Purchase System Amid Crisis
As a long-time resident of Ubud, I've noticed that the usual hustle and bustle of daily life has been significantly affected by the ongoing fuel crisis in Bali. Starting this Saturday, October 17, the government is implementing an odd-even system for fuel purchases, a move that might seem disruptive but is aimed at easing the current supply strain.

The new system will see motorists with odd-numbered license plates allowed to purchase fuel on October 17 and 19, while those with even-numbered plates can refuel on October 18. This measure, which is set to run for three days, is intended to reduce queues and ensure a more equitable distribution of fuel. Pertamina, the state oil company, is also stepping up efforts to replenish supplies and manage distribution, with some stations operating 24/7.
For those living in Ubud or visiting, it's important to plan ahead. With a maximum of 20 liters per transaction for cars and 3 liters for motorcycles, make sure to check the final digit of your license plate and the date of your trip. The system is currently planned to last until October 19, but may be adjusted depending on the situation. Stay informed and be prepared for potential changes in the coming days.
