From Jerk Chicken to Gnocchi: Toronto’s Best Eats Within a Subway Ride
Ranique McFarlane, a content creator behind Metro Eats, is making it easier for Toronto expats and digital nomads to discover the city’s best cuisines by exploring the 109 subway stations. His initiative highlights restaurants, bakeries, and cafés within a 15-minute walk, proving that good food is just a couple of stops away.

McFarlane, who founded Metro Eats after being fired in 2025, originally aimed to explore new restaurants near his home in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. Upon returning to Toronto, he noticed the oversaturated market and decided to focus on local eateries within walking distance of transit stations.
‘Good cuisine, good food, good experiences are all accessible, all you have to do is take the train,’ says McFarlane. ‘It’s just a couple stops away to experience good food in the city and different cuisines in the city.’
With a background in food, both from his grandfather’s Jamaican restaurant and his father’s homemade jerk sauce, McFarlane is passionate about exploring new dining spots. His series not only offers a practical guide but also promotes the idea that every station holds a culinary adventure.
For those looking to expand their Toronto dining horizons, McFarlane’s series is a must-follow. Whether you’re craving jerk chicken or gnocchi, a 15-minute walk from any subway station might just lead you to your next favorite spot.
