La Laguna to Host ‘Heritage Nights’ for Two Days This September

La Laguna, Tenerife, will be the only city from Spain’s UNESCO World Heritage Cities Group to host ‘Heritage Nights’ on September 18 and 19. The event, titled ‘Las Noches del Patrimonio’, will feature workshops and performances by local artist Yapci Ramos, focusing on contemporary interpretations of the city’s heritage.

For expats and digital nomads, this is a great opportunity to engage with the city’s rich cultural landscape. Ramos will kick off the ‘Vive Patrimonio’ section with two impactful events, including ‘Monumenta Performance’ and workshops led by Ramos and choreographer María Ibarretxe, focusing on cultural heritage and memory.

The workshops titled ‘Monumenta Performance: Body, Memory, and Heritage’ will take place on 15 and 16 September at Casa Anchieta, offering three sessions daily at 10:00, 12:00, and 19:00. Participants will explore cultural heritage through movement, dance, and play in six free workshops, each limited to 20 participants, requiring prior registration at monumentadanza@gmail.com.

On 19 September, ‘Monumenta Performance’ will feature two free showings in La Concepción square at 18:00 and 20:00, involving nine dancers embodying different aspects of the ‘Monumenta’ theme. This artistic piece, conceptualised and directed by Ramos, seeks to invoke contemporary reflections on Guanche identity and culture rather than merely reconstruct the past.

‘Las Noches del Patrimonio’ aims to engage the public with Spain’s rich heritage through open and accessible historical spaces, spreading awareness and promoting cultural participation. This year, it extends to two consecutive days across all participating cities, with La Laguna’s event specific.
