I was outside in UTC tonight and heard a unique engine noise, which I later found out was a 747 freighter. I'm curious if anyone else saw or heard it.

National Air Cargo, flying out of Miramar and heading east, was the one you likely heard. You can check its flight path on adsb.lol with the ICAO code acb84d.

Kalitta Air occasionally has 747s at North Island, so it's possible that's the one you saw. They do fly in and out of there occasionally.

I remember when I was a kid hearing planes flying high in the sky and it sounding like a low frequency buzz or hum, but it was really faint and not everyone could hear it. Were the 747s you heard really loud?

I used to work on the ramp at the airport and I saw British Airways 747s blow tires about 30 years ago. It's pretty cool seeing those big planes fly in and out of the airport every day.
