I'm interviewing for an account manager position and I have a flower tattoo on my neck, the size of my palm. I've been doing virtual calls but I'm unsure if it was seen.

As a historian, I've found that people's perceptions of tattoos can be quite conservative, even in modern times. I recall covering my neck tattoo with makeup for a job interview, and I've noticed that many people still harbor reservations about tattoos, even in 2026.

While societal attitudes towards tattoos are evolving, hiring managers often hold more traditional views. This can make it challenging for individuals with tattoos to secure employment in certain industries.

In my opinion, the notion that only older people judge tattoos is misguided. Many younger individuals, particularly those in white-collar office jobs or sales roles, may still harbor biases against tattoos. One such individual may have chosen to get a neck tattoo, knowing it could potentially hinder their job prospects.

When preparing for a job interview, it's a good idea to consider covering tattoos or other unconventional features until you get a sense of the company culture. This can help you gauge what is and isn't acceptable in the workplace.

As someone with a neck tattoo who works in a corporate setting, I initially covered it until I could determine whether my colleagues would be accepting of it. I've found that it's essential to be mindful of your appearance in a professional environment.

To effectively cover tattoos, I recommend using Dermablend makeup, which is a high-quality product that provides excellent coverage when applied correctly. Alternatively, you can wear clothing with longer necklines to conceal the tattoo.
