My wife and I are booked to do a pre-baby trip to Playa Del Carmen/Mayakoba next week. We just saw the Dengue fever advisory, is it running rampant right now to the point we should cancel our trip (As noted, she is pregnant)?

We live in the area and have seen only a few cases of dengue fever here and there. It's not a major concern, and I wouldn't cancel a trip over it. We've had a few instances where people have been bitten, but it's not widespread.

I'm concerned about the reported cases of dengue fever in the area and the fact that your wife is pregnant. Pregnant women are at a higher risk of contracting the disease, and there's a risk of passing it to the fetus. It's essential to take this seriously and consult with a medical professional before making any decisions.

I recently visited Tulum and was told that many people have been bitten by mosquitoes there. In Playa del Carmen, I've noticed that the center tends to have fewer mosquitoes than the outskirts, which are closer to the jungle. Trust your instincts when it comes to your safety.

I was sick for about 13 days with dengue fever. Although my case wasn't officially recorded, I want to share my experience to highlight the severity of the disease.

I recently returned from Tulum with dengue fever, which I contracted just three days before my return. The symptoms were severe, and I was bedridden for a week. In the past, I almost died from a similar bite in a hotel near Playa del Carmen, which required hospitalization in Merida. I was diagnosed with hemorrhagic dengue. Despite taking precautions, I still got bitten on my finger. My advice is to be cautious, as mosquitoes can still get you even with protection.

Consult with your doctor, as they can provide personalized advice. We've seen several cases of dengue fever recently, and it's not something you want to contract. If your wife is pregnant, it's crucial to consult with your physician and follow their guidance, even if it means postponing your trip.
