Walking across the Macdonald Bridge to work from Dartmouth to downtown in winter, is it doable?

I'm planning to move to Halifax and I'm thinking of walking to work from Dartmouth to downtown across the Macdonald Bridge. I've heard it's cold and windy in the winter, but I want to know if it's feasible to do so.

It's about 20 minutes for the bridge walk portion. Cold and windy in the winter months.

I used to walk across the bridge frequently. However, it's essential to bundle up warmly, as the cold and wind can be quite harsh. If you dress appropriately, it's still manageable.

The ferry might be a more suitable option. Winters in this city can be unforgiving, with strong winds and freezing temperatures making it an unpleasant experience.

I commuted daily from Pleasant Street to Parade Square during a transit strike, walking back and forth each day. It took approximately an hour to walk each way, but it was a decent way to get some exercise and enjoy the scenery.

I recall the 2012 transit strike, during which many people walked across the bridge daily. However, I wouldn't recommend it on a stormy day, as it can be quite hazardous.

I also walked daily during the transit strike, and I found it helpful to dress in layers. By the time I reached the Halifax side of the bridge, I had to remove my hat, mittens, gloves, and jacket because I was overheating.

If you decide to walk, invest in a good coat and other essential gear. When properly dressed, the experience is much more enjoyable. Be prepared for occasional rain showers, which can be quite challenging.

A practical tip for walking in the rain: consider using a raincoat instead of an umbrella.
