My wife and I are going on our honeymoon this month and we're planning to visit Cancun. We want to explore the city beyond the resort area and visit Playa del Carmen. Can you recommend some local activities, such as boat/yacht trips, jet skiing, or local tours?

Yes, it's safe to visit Cancun. Just use common sense. There are lots of things to do, such as visiting cenotes, Isla Mujeres, and going horseback riding. You can find more ideas and activities on Viator, along with pricing.

If you're feeling adventurous, I highly recommend visiting Rio Secreto. It's located near Playa del Carmen and they'll pick you up and drop you off at your hotel. It's a full-day activity that's definitely worth it.

Cancun itself doesn't really have a city area that you can walk around. Playa del Carmen has a more lively 5th Avenue that's worth visiting.

Parque de las Palapas in the Centro is a great place to stroll around, and the surrounding area, including Plaza de la Reforma, is also worth exploring. In the evenings, you might even catch some people dancing.

Cancun's park is relatively small, so you won't need to walk far. A similar lively street scene to 5th Avenue might be found in the city.

For a budget-friendly option, consider taking an ADO bus from Cancun's terminal to Playa del Carmen. Alternatively, you can board a Playa Express shuttle for a low cost, approximately $5-$10 each way.

Cancun is super safe and tourist-friendly. There's not much to do in the city, but you can walk on Tulum Avenue, visit Parque de Las Palapas, and check out some rooftop bars and restaurants. Playa del Carmen is also a great place to spend a day at the beach and walking around 5th Avenue.

You can also plan a day trip to Isla Mujeres by taking a ferry. Just be careful not to fall for those all-day packages that just want to get you drunk instead of enjoying the other activities.
