After years of traveling the world, I moved back to Cancún to be closer to family. As a Mexican-American nurse, I’ve experienced the joys and challenges of living in this beautiful destination. One of the highlights is the all-inclusive resorts, where the concept of seamless luxury is the norm. However, even in paradise, there are a few essential tasks to ensure your trip is smooth sailing from the get-go.

1. Secure Your Specialty Dining Reservations
Dining reservations can make or break your evening plans. While the main buffet is always open, the à la carte spots have limited seating. Some properties require you to book through their app, while others have traditional reservation systems. Find out the protocol at the front desk and secure your preferred dining times right away. Prime slots between 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM tend to fill up quickly, so don’t wait until day two to make your reservations.

2. Request an Abundance of Bottled Water from Housekeeping
Cancún tap water is not suitable for drinking, so it’s crucial to have enough bottled water in your room. Most housekeeping teams only stock two small bottles, which is barely enough for a day in the sun. As soon as you get to your floor, find a housekeeper or call the housekeeping desk. Politely ask for eight to ten bottles of water, and they will gladly restock your counter, saving you from making a late-night trip to the lobby bar.

3. Customize Your Minibar for Daily Restocks
The standard minibar assortment might not align with your preferences. Call guest services or housekeeping after settling in to request a customized setup. If you only drink sparkling water, local Mexican lager, or zero-sugar soda, let them know right away. Leave a polite note on the fridge in both English and Spanish, and include a small tip for the attendant. The minibar restock team will ensure your fridge is stocked with your preferred drinks for the rest of your stay.
