I'm looking to learn piano and found a studio in Queens that offers 30-minute lessons for $47. Is this a reasonable price?

The price is reasonable, but you'll still need to put in some effort to improve. You can shop around and use online resources to find the best deals, but ultimately, taking lessons will help you get better.

And something to practice on.

I asked if I could practice at the school, but they said their schedule is quite busy right now, so I think it would be a good idea to have a keyboard at home to practice regularly.

The price is very reasonable, but taking lessons is essential to develop good technique. You'll want to practice regularly to see progress.

The cost is reasonable compared to other music schools in Brooklyn, like the Williamsburg School of Music, where 30-minute lessons cost $54. To get the most out of your lessons, it's helpful to have a keyboard with velocity-sensitive keys at home. Many students who try to teach themselves through online tutorials end up developing bad habits that are difficult to correct.

Keep in mind that a 30-minute lesson once a week won't teach you how to play the piano, but it will help you learn how to practice and correct your mistakes. I strongly recommend investing in an 88-key weighted keyboard to help you improve. While there are beginner piano courses on YouTube, in-person feedback from a teacher is invaluable for making progress.
