Puerto Vallarta’s Independence Day Parade: A Familiar Face Returns
It's that time of year again in Puerto Vallarta-yes, that’s right, the 216th anniversary of Mexico’s independence is coming up on September 16, 2026, and the city is getting ready for its usual parade downtown. If you're an expat or digital nomad living here, you know what this means: a chance to show off your patriotism, or at least get into the spirit of things.
Registration is Open
Public and private schools, as well as civic and cultural associations, are invited to participate. Registration is still open until September 9, and each group can bring up to 150 people. If you're thinking of joining in, give teacher Fausto Jacobo Hernández a call at 322 381 2926, 322 211 8576, or 322 182 0944, or drop him an email at educacion@puertovallarta.gob.mx. You can also register in person at Milenium 143 in colonia La Aurora.
While you're busy organizing your contingent, the Mexican Navy’s 12th Naval Zone is already hard at work. Second Master Citlali Montserrat Araiza Delgado says the naval contingent will include 296 personnel, 216 men, and 80 women, with a command group, war band, honor guard, guidons, and standards representing the Secretaría de Marina. They’re definitely in for a busy rehearsal!
Plan Your Day
The parade will move along the main downtown streets, with a focal point at Plaza de Armas and the Malecón. This is where residents and visitors traditionally gather to celebrate. If you’re staying in the historic center, be prepared for some morning street activity. You can check the city’s events calendar for more details on the Fiestas Patrias weekend.
