Moving into an unfurnished apartment. Need everything — bed, desk, shelves, kitchen stuff. Where do people shop for furniture here?

Orale so for new stuff go to Coppel first. Basic furniture, decent prices, they deliver, and they have the "meses sin intereses" if you want to pay in installments. Bed frame plus mattress starts around $6,000-10,000 pesos. Elektra is similar, good for appliances like washing machines and microwaves. Home Depot on the highway has better quality shelves, storage, bathroom stuff.

IKEA ships from CDMX, takes 2-3 weeks to arrive. Shipping is $500-2,000 pesos depending on how much you order. Their BILLY bookcases and MALM dressers are everywhere in expat apartments here.

But honestly? The best deals are used stuff from expats leaving. Facebook Marketplace is the move, people sell everything cheap because they can't take it with them. The "Playa del Carmen Buy/Sell" group has new posts every day. I got my whole kitchen setup for $3,000 pesos from a gringo going back to the States. There are also second-hand shops on 25th Ave with basic furniture and appliances, always negotiate, the first price is never the real price.

For kitchen stuff like pots, pans, gadgets, Walmart has the biggest selection. If you want traditional Mexican cooking stuff like a comal, molcajete, clay pots, take a day trip to Mercado 28 in Cancún. Worth it.

For the mattress don't go cheap, you're sleeping on it every night. Dormimundo and Spring Air have good options. Queen mattress starts at $4,000-8,000 pesos and they usually deliver same day or next day.

Total budget for a 1BR from nothing: if you mix used stuff with Coppel, you're looking at $15,000-25,000 pesos ($800-1,400 USD). All new mid-range, more like $30,000-50,000 pesos ($1,700-2,800 USD).
