Tulum Museum Gains New Treasures, Deepening Its Historical Narrative
Recently, the Tulum Museum, located within Parque del Jaguar, has received a significant addition to its collection. Mexico's federal culture authorities transferred 53 archaeological pieces from various Mesoamerican cultures to the museum, including an Olmec jar dating back to 1500 to 500 B.C., making it the oldest object in the collection. These pieces will anchor a new Sala Introductoria de Mesoamérica, adding depth and breadth to the museum's historical narrative.

The Mureco, as it is locally known, opened its doors on September 7, 2024, and has since attracted 104,151 visitors between September 2025 and August 2026, more than any other INAH venue in Quintana Roo or the Yucatán Peninsula. The new pieces come from cultures including Teotihuacan, Mezcala, Chupícuaro, Huastec, Mexica, and Zapotec, enriching the museum's offerings.
Each piece will be carefully integrated into the museographic script, highlighting their historical and cultural significance. The new hall is set to open, but no specific date has been announced yet.
