Montreal Restaurants in Toronto: Adapting to the Local Market
With a growing number of Montreal restaurants opening up in Toronto, I, Lorenzo Rizzo, an expat living in Toronto since 2022, have noticed that there are some key differences between the two cities. In a recent article, Jennifer Schembri of StreetsofToronto highlights how these restaurants are adapting to the local market.

Take Arthur's Snackette, which has expanded from the original Arthur's Nosh Bar. According to Raegan Steinberg, one of the founders, moving to Toronto was a natural step for their brand's growth. The Toronto location introduced a unique sourdough bagel, tailored to the local taste. This new offering has been well-received by Toronto diners, who are now familiarizing themselves with the brand's sprinkle cookies, a favorite in Montreal.
Similarly, Mandy's, a Montreal salad brand, has had to adjust its operations and supply chain management to ensure a consistent experience. Co-founder Mandy Wolfe emphasizes the importance of these adjustments. Toronto has become a meaningful part of Mandy's story, with Montreal remaining the heart of the brand's identity.
Estiatorio Milos is another example of a Montreal restaurant making the transition to Toronto. It has successfully established itself in the city, bringing its Greek cuisine to a broader audience. The key takeaway for Toronto residents is that these Montreal brands are not just opening up; they're adapting and finding their place in the local dining scene.
Arrived in Toronto in 2022 from Italy. Still figuring things out, writing it down as it happens.
