Prepare Your AutoExpreso Account: DTOP Urges Verification and Balance Maintenance
The Puerto Rico Highways and Transportation Authority (HTA) has announced that administrative fines for the AutoExpreso toll system will resume on October 19, following a modernization effort that replaced toll plaza infrastructure and improved the system. Secretary Edwin González Montalvo of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP) is urging motorists to verify their accounts, ensure their transponders are registered, and maintain sufficient balances to avoid penalties.

According to González Montalvo, 'Our goal is for this transition to take place in an orderly manner and for users to have the information and tools necessary to properly manage their accounts.' Motorists can check and replenish their balances through the AutoExpreso mobile application, website, designated recharge lanes, CESCO offices, and other payment channels. The HTA also reminds users of the importance of registering their accounts to access detailed records and notifications.
As a muralist in Santurce, I know firsthand the impact of such changes on daily life. If you've been lax on your AutoExpreso account, now is the time to take action. The new toll system is more robust, but it requires more attention from users to avoid fines. Make sure your account is in good standing to avoid any unexpected costs.
