Tenerife Prepares for Volcanic Eruption Simulation: Mobile Alerts to Be Tested
The Government of Canarias is set to conduct a volcanic eruption simulation in Tenerife on October 22nd, as part of a Guía de Isora Canary Island Council exercise called 'Volcanex Tenerife 2026'. The simulation will include a preventive evacuation and the dispatch of emergency alerts to mobile phones via the 112 emergency services.

The Government of Canarias stated that the ES-Alert system will be tested during this simulation event. This comes amidst recent volcanic activity in the region, including an eruption at El Teide National Park in Tenerife. The exercise aims to ensure the proper functioning of the emergency system in case of a real volcanic event.
Residents of Tenerife, especially those living in areas prone to volcanic activity, will be notified of the simulation through mobile alerts, which may also affect other islands in the region. This is a significant step in preparing for potential volcanic emergencies, ensuring that the population is adequately informed and ready to take necessary precautions.
