Bochorno Continues in Santa Cruz de Tenerife: What You Need to Know

The scorching heat that has gripped the Canary Islands, particularly Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is expected to continue into this Wednesday, though with a slight drop in temperatures. As a laundry owner in the city, I can attest to the challenges this heat brings, from managing my staff to dealing with daily deliveries and paperwork.

The termómetro de Tasarte, a local weather station, recorded a staggering 40.09 degrees Celsius on Tuesday at 4:50 PM, marking the highest temperature in Spain. This heat is exacerbated by the calima, a dry, dusty wind that blows in from the Sahara, making the air even more oppressive.

According to the Aemet, the heat alert will remain in effect from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, affecting most of the eastern, southern, and western parts of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Gomera, and the eastern, southern, western, and metropolitan areas of Tenerife. The islands of La Palma and El Hierro are not under the alert.

As the mercury climbs, it's important to stay hydrated, seek shade, and limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day. For those of us running businesses, the heat can be particularly challenging, but staying informed and prepared can help us weather the storm.
