Blanca Merari Reinforces Beach Clean-up Efforts in Puerto Morelos
Blanca Merari, the president of Puerto Morelos, recently led a beach cleanup initiative in Playa Primero de Junio, involving students and municipal workers. The event aimed to raise environmental awareness and protect marine ecosystems. Merari emphasized the importance of keeping beaches clean to preserve the area's tourism and ecological value. Additionally, she highlighted the need for collaboration across various sectors to ensure long-term conservation efforts.

Emmanuel Tuz Betancourt, the director of ZOFEMAT in Puerto Morelos, explained that the cleanup is part of the national strategy for beach and coastal clean-up and conservation. He also informed that Playa Primero de Junio, which is part of the Arrecife National Park, will have recurring clean-up sessions to reinforce its protection and maintenance.
Gerardo Rosas García, the secretary of Environment, Livestock Welfare, and Sustainable Mobility, noted that the city will continue these activities along its coast. The goal is to remove waste from the sand and prevent it from entering the sea, contributing to the care of marine wildlife and coastal ecosystems.
Through this initiative, Merari aims to create a culture of conservation among the youth, encouraging them to actively participate in maintaining the coastal areas. The event also included the removal of plastic waste and microplastics by students, further emphasizing the importance of cleaning up beaches and preventing pollution.
