What's the sound design like in Phoenix's Les Mis productions?

I recently saw a production of Les Mis at the Phoenix Theatre Company and noticed that the sound seemed to be mostly pre-recorded. I'm used to seeing either high-end productions with extensive use of live microphones or local productions with limited use of microphones. I'm wondering if this is a common practice in local productions or if it was just a choice for this particular show.

Local theater companies often rely on safety nets to avoid vocal mishaps, which can be costly. They may use backing tracks for ensemble numbers and some challenging solos to minimize risks.

I was thinking that it might have been a one-time issue, but given the quality of the cast, it seemed like they were relying on pre-recorded elements quite a bit. It would be disappointing if that's become a common practice in the industry.

I'm almost certain that the Phoenix theater uses a full orchestra and no pre-recorded tracks. The theater I attended was brand new, and the orchestra was located below the stage, as I was shown at the end of the show.
