Schools Close Monday as Earthquake Safety Reviews Continue

As I write this, I’ve been in Panama City for almost two years now, working remotely from this beautiful city. Today, a new development has come to light: school classes will be suspended on Monday as earthquake safety reviews continue. This is just one of several ongoing issues that residents and expats need to be aware of.

The earthquake safety reviews are part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of school buildings in the wake of recent seismic activity. While the reviews are necessary, they do mean that students won’t be able to attend classes on Monday. This might cause some inconvenience, but it’s a small price to pay for the security of our children. The reviews are expected to continue for a few more days, so it’s important to stay informed about any further changes.

On the bright side, electricity seems to be largely restored after recent outages. According to Naturgy, 97 percent of customers have electricity back, which is a relief for many. However, it’s still a good idea to keep a backup power source, just in case.

This development affects both students and parents, and it’s important to plan accordingly. If you have children in school, make sure they have their homework and any necessary materials for the week. For those who are working, it might be a good idea to adjust your schedule to accommodate the closure.

The earthquake safety reviews are a reminder of the importance of being prepared for natural disasters. While the immediate impact might be inconvenient, it’s crucial to support these safety measures for the long-term security of our community.
