Panama Launches Visa for Young Foreign Professionals
After years of observing the changing dynamics of Panama City, I noticed a significant shift in the city's immigration policies. The Panamanian government has recently launched a new visa aimed at attracting young professionals, a move that could significantly impact the city's demographics and economy.

The 'Short Stay Visa as a Tourist Participant in the Working Holiday Program' is designed for young individuals between 18 and 30 years old from countries with current bilateral agreements. This visa allows temporary work but does not grant permanent residency. It's a strategic move to foster a youthful workforce that can contribute to the city's growth.
Those interested must submit a series of documents, including a personal application, a verified passport, photographs, and proof of financial resources. The visa is valid for 12 months, during which beneficiaries can work, provided they obtain a work permit from the Ministry of Labor and Workforce Development (Mitradel).
This change in policy could be particularly appealing to digital nomads and young professionals looking for a shorter-term stay in Panama. However, it’s important to note that the visa does not offer a path to permanent residency, which might limit its appeal for long-term residents.
