I recently bought a fancy camera and want to practice portrait photography. I see a lot of tourists in Manhattan, and I figured some might be interested in getting a few free photos.

Your chances of getting people to let you take their picture depend on your social media following and whether others trust you not to be creepy. To gain their trust, you need to be reliable and able to prove it. For instance, people who have been to fashion events in the past might be more willing to trust you if you've shown them your work.

It seems like having a large social media following is a plus, but I thought they would prefer it if I didn't publish their photos online. I'm not sure what their exact preferences are, but it's worth considering.

In Times Square, you can find photographers with fancy equipment who offer digital photos. They often show people the photos on an iPad they wear around their neck. To get people to your apartment or studio, you'll need to address their concerns and make them feel at ease.
