New Times Square Supertall to Feature Free-Fall Ride and Hyatt Hotel
Times Square is set to get an even bigger and more thrilling addition, with the announcement of a 1,067-foot-tall supertall development that will include a free-fall ride and a Hyatt-branded hotel.

On October 29, 2026, Extell Development Company and Hyatt Hotels Corporation unveiled plans for a 1,800-room hotel and entertainment destination on 255 West 45th Street, known as The StandardX. The tower, designed by ODA, will be completed in the second half of 2028.
Key features of the development include an indoor free-fall thrill ride, an outdoor observation deck, a rooftop pool, and a collection of restaurants, bars, and nightlife destinations. The hotel, The StandardX Times Square, will be the first of its kind in North America, described by Hyatt as the more accessible, 'younger sibling' of The Standard brand.
According to Amar Lalvani, Chief Creative Officer of Hyatt, the project aims to embrace the energy and theatricality of Times Square, offering an over-the-top experience that only New York can provide. The city's Department of Buildings first issued permits for the project in 2022.
For expats and digital nomads living in or visiting New York, this development marks a significant shift in the city's skyline and entertainment offerings. Expect to see more excitement and fun in the area as the Torch project progresses.
Arrived in New York in 2022 from United States. Still figuring things out, writing it down as it happens.
