Since the start of the year, the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation (MAPAQ) has handed down over 800 judgments against food establishments across Quebec, including seven restaurants in Montreal. These fines range from $8,000 to $16,900, primarily for unsanitary premises, equipment, and unsafe food storage. This blog post focuses on these seven specific restaurants and the violations that led to the fines.

Seven Montreal Restaurants Hit with Massive Health Inspection Fines

This restaurant faced two separate cases totaling $16,900 in fines. The first case involved unclean premises, equipment, and utensils, resulting in fines for violations observed in December 2024 and October 2024. The second case dealt with contaminated and pest-infested premises, resulting in fines for violations observed in December 2024 and July 2024.

Restaurant Kim Fung

These three cases resulted in a total of $13,200 in fines. The largest case was due to operating without a valid permit, with fines for violations in August 2025 and February 2025. Another $4,000 fine was issued for unclean premises, equipment, and utensils related to an August 22, 2025 inspection. A smaller $1,000 fine was also issued for failing to keep perishable products at the correct temperature.

Vago Italien

This restaurant received a $11,500 fine for operating without a valid permit and for improperly corrosion-resistant, non-absorbent, or particle-free equipment and surfaces. The violation for operating without a valid permit was observed in March 2025, while the fine for improperly corrosive equipment was observed in March 2025 and judged in March 2026.

Mimimelon

These three violations resulted in a total of $11,200 in fines. The largest case was for premises not being free of contaminants, pollutants, or pests, with fines for violations in May 2025 and July 2025. Another $2,000 fine was issued for failing to keep perishable products at the correct temperature.

Les Grillades de Steeve

This restaurant received a $10,000 fine for operating without a valid permit and another $5,000 fine for premises not being free of contaminants or pests. Both violations were observed in January 2025 and judged in June 2026.

Restaurant Siciliana

Two separate fines for premises not being free of contaminants or pests and for unclean premises, equipment, and utensils resulted in a total of $8,000 in fines. The fine for premises not being free of contaminants or pests was observed in February 2025, while the fine for unclean premises, equipment, and utensils was observed in August 2025 and judged in February 2026.

La Belle Province

This restaurant received a $8,000 fine for unclean premises, equipment, materials, and utensils used for food preparation and service. The violations were observed in June 2025 and May 2025 and judged in June and May of the following year, respectively.

These fines underscore the importance of adhering to health and safety regulations, especially for restaurants and other food establishments. For residents and visitors in Montreal, it's crucial to be aware of these violations and ensure that the restaurants they frequent are in compliance with health and safety standards.
