What to wear for sun protection on Isla Mujeres?

I'm heading to Isla Mujeres in a few weeks and I'm used to hiking in long sleeves to protect my skin from the sun. However, I've heard that the humidity on Isla Mujeres is higher than where I'm from, so I'm wondering if long sleeves would be too hot. I'll be there for about 8 days starting October 26th.

I opted for long-sleeved clothing made of moisture-wicking fabric, which kept me comfortable throughout the day. However, I still managed to get a sunburn on my face after several hours of sitting under an umbrella at Playa Norte. This experience taught me that the sun's UV rays are incredibly potent, even when seeking shade. I'd suggest packing sunscreen and protective gear regardless of your clothing choice.

It's very hot on Isla Mujeres and the sun hits hard. I wore a long-sleeved SPF shift while on the beach, but opted for a short-sleeved or tank top for meals. You might consider a similar approach.

I usually wear a long-sleeved dive skin when I'm on or in the water. For hiking around the island, I'll wear long-sleeved fishing shorts that I can roll up in the shade and down in the sun. For everyday activities, I stick to t-shirts or light short-sleeved button-downs, as there's a Mexican saying that only mad dogs and Englishmen stay out in the midday sun.
