Craft Vendors Beware: Email Scam Targets Halifax's Christmas Markets

As the holiday season approaches, craft vendors in Halifax need to be on high alert. A recent scam targeting email addresses has been reported, with scammers attempting to steal sensitive information from craft sellers ahead of the upcoming Christmas market season.

According to Immigration Lawyer Noor32, who has been practicing in Halifax for three years, it’s crucial for local vendors to remain vigilant. 'Scammers are increasingly using sophisticated methods to trick individuals, especially during the busy holiday shopping period,' she explains. 'Vendors need to be extra cautious and verify any emails they receive.'

The scam involves phishing emails that appear legitimate, often masquerading as legitimate market organizers or clients. These emails may ask for personal or financial information, which could be used for fraudulent purposes. Noor32 advises that vendors should never click on suspicious links or download attachments from unknown sources.

‘If you receive an email that looks questionable, it’s best to contact the supposed sender via another method, such as a phone call or direct message on a known platform,’ she suggests. ‘And always check the sender’s email address to ensure it matches the expected organization’s domain.’
