How to Ensure Google Fully Understands Your Business in Cancún

Recently, while chatting with an entrepreneur in Cancún, a simple question arose: Do you appear on Google? The answer was a resounding yes. When I asked if someone looking for a service related to your business would find you, there was a pause. Many businesses confuse appearing on Google with being found by their potential customers.

How to Ensure Google Fully Understands Your Business in Cancún

Imagine you own a remodeling company in Cancún. Your website speaks of commitment, quality, experience, and comprehensive solutions. Yet, nowhere does it clearly state what you do, whether you remodel houses, build pools, or do renovations. When someone searches for Who can remodel my house in Cancún?, Google may not fully understand what you do and might not connect you with the right customer.

One of the most common mistakes I see when analyzing digital presence is that businesses talk too much about themselves and not enough about what their clients really need to know. Google uses the information available on your website, your Google Business Profile, reviews, and other sources to interpret what you do, where you work, and what problems you solve.

Now we have another player: artificial intelligence (AI).

Today, people also ask tools like ChatGPT or Google’s AI functions about which companies can solve specific needs. They ask complete questions, compare options, and wait for specific responses.

That’s where SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) come in. SEO helps improve your visibility in search engines, while GEO helps systems of AI understand and utilize relevant information about a brand.

However, there is one simple exercise you can do to test your digital visibility: search for your main services on Google without writing your business name. Then, view your website as if you were a customer who just met you.

Does Google understand what you offer? Where do you work? What problems do you solve? Do your reviews back up what you promise?

Not appearing in a search doesn't necessarily mean Google doesn't know your business. Factors like competition and location also play a role. However, this exercise can reveal opportunities to improve.

After more than 15 years in marketing, I've learned something: many businesses don't have a quality problem with their services. They have a problem in communicating digitally what they really do.

Meanwhile, some companies are responding better to the questions people ask daily. Before investing more in advertising or worrying about appearing first, ask yourself:

Would Google be able to explain your business to someone who has never heard of you?

Because today, having Google know your name isn't enough. What matters is that it can connect your business with the needs of those looking for exactly what you offer.
