Bowness - What's the vibe in the schools?

We're considering buying a home in Bowness, looking for a low-crime area with great public schools and access to river pathways. We've heard concerns about bullying at the local junior high and high school, which is a major concern for us as parents who experienced bullying in the past.

We've been assigned to Bowness High School, although we don't live in Bowness. Initially, I was apprehensive due to Bowness's reputation in the past, but we've really enjoyed our experience there. The school has a diverse range of good teachers, plenty of extracurricular options, and an excellent music program. Our youngest child is particularly enthusiastic about the culinary program, which they started this year. The school's size has also been beneficial, as my kids have been able to find their own groups and haven't experienced bullying.

Bowness High School draws students from a larger catchment area than the junior schools, which has helped improve its reputation.

If you're looking for a compromise, you might consider Scenic Acres. It's often referred to as 'upper Bowness.' The high school there is excellent, with great programs and staff. My son is currently in grade 10. To get a better sense of the school, I recommend meeting with the principal. Additionally, attending parent council meetings is a great way to stay informed about your child's education and help teachers get to know your kids.

My child has attended elementary school and is now in junior high at Bowness. We've had a wonderful experience throughout, and my child is thriving in junior high. Based on my observations, I don't think bullying is any worse at TBR than at other junior highs.
