Should GSP have stricter rules around car chases?

Should GSP have stricter rules around car chases?

I've been following the recent news about a GSP chase that resulted in a 10-car collision and the death of an infant. I'm wondering if GSP should have stricter rules around car chases, as it puts the public at greater risk for accidents that are avoidable.

It's astonishing that a state with the most extensive network of flock cameras and a state police force with helicopters allows reckless individuals to act with impunity. Either they have cameras or they have officers chasing people at breakneck speeds, but they can't have both.

The solution is straightforward: start issuing tickets to everyone based on their license plate. If the plate is obscured, it's a violation. If it happens more than once, the vehicle should be impounded, no exceptions.

To charge someone with a road rage offense in Georgia, you need a clear shot of the driver. My county sheriff told me that dashcam footage and license plate numbers aren't sufficient, which is a major flaw in the state's laws.

For the state police, high-speed chases are a thrill, a way for them to feel like real police officers. But we're the ones who pay the price for their ego, and it's a steep price to pay.

Their ego is writing checks that our bodies can't cash, and it's a recipe for disaster.

The rules governing police chases in Georgia are woefully inadequate. It's astonishing that some people defend the state police's aggressive tactics when we have a city notorious for police brutality and more flock cameras than we can count.

The GSP's chase policy is reckless and should be abolished entirely. We have the most extensive network of flock cameras in the nation, aerial support, and other resources to track down suspects without putting innocent lives at risk. It's staggering that inexperienced officers are put in charge of these high-speed chases, causing more accidents and damage than the original offense.

I was fortunate to avoid being caught in the crossfire of a GSP chase. It's a harrowing experience that has left a lasting impact on me. The officers involved in the chase had no regard for public safety, and their actions were a stark reminder of the dangers of high-speed policing.
