Can I take Uber with my kids in Montreal without a car seat?

I'm visiting Montreal with my family and we don't have a car seat. Can we take Uber with our kids without one, or will they refuse to take us? Is it safe to take a taxi without a car seat?

You can use an alternative vehicle like a taxi or a ride-sharing service without a car seat, but it's recommended to use a car seat for safety reasons. According to the SAAQ, you can transport a child under 145 cm or 9 years old in a taxi or a vehicle similar to a taxi without a car seat.

While Montreal taxi regulations allow for children to ride without a child seat, it's advisable to use a seat for their safety. In an emergency, using an official taxi without a seat might be necessary, but it's not the preferred option.

According to the SAQ, there's an exception to the car seat requirement when transporting a child under 145 cm or 9 years old in a taxi, a vehicle similar to a taxi, or a police vehicle.

But can Uber still refuse to take us even if it's allowed by law?

Yes, I've been refused by Uber when I traveled with a young child. Official taxis have always been very kind, though.

If we base it on the SAQ's road regulations, it's going to be a problem... The SAAQ should be okay, though.

Using an Uber in Montreal is possible, but the company may still cancel the ride. Public transit is generally a more reliable and recommended choice.

We hired a private taxi service called Wexy on Wheels to take us to the airport, and they provided a car seat for our child's safety. It was a convenient and reliable option.
